A new Spectrometer ARL 3460

The ARL 3460 spectrometer is a key device for our foundry and the most frequently used spark spectrometer in the world – about 7,000 installations. Based on over 30 years of experience, we have decided to acquire the same model with a modern generation. This spectrometer is characterised by very high precision, accuracy, stability and very short analysis time. The principle of the spectrometer is not complicated. The analysis of the chemical composition is performed by generating a spark between the surface of the tested sample and the electrode. By means of the electric charge, the atoms in the sample are excited, which emits light radiation consisting of waves characteristic of each element. Wave intensity measurement is carried out using a photomultiplier. Thanks to the use of analogue-digital converters we obtain a percentage of the given element.

The new spectrometer has two calibrations:

– for low-alloy steel

– for cast iron

We have a complete analytical channel for 19 elements,ie Al, B, C, Ce, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Mo, Ni, P, Pb, S, Si, Sn, Ti, V, W.
